Your wedding invitation is the first glimpse your guests get of your big day, so the words matter almost as much as the design. Below you will find ready-to-use wording for every card in a wedding stationery suite — just copy it, swap in your names and details, and you are done.
What every wedding invitation should include
- The hosts — who is inviting the guests (the couple, parents, or “together with their families”).
- The request line — the polite invitation itself.
- Your names — traditionally the bride first, but any order is fine.
- Date and time — formal invitations write them out in words.
- Venue name and city — the full street address can go on a details card.
- Reception line — for example “Dinner and dancing to follow”.
Formal wedding invitation wording
Use “the honour of your presence” when the ceremony takes place in a house of worship, and “the pleasure of your company” for other venues.

Casual and modern wedding invitation wording
- “We’re getting married! Join us as we say ‘I do’ — Saturday, June 12, 2027 at 5 PM, Rosewood Gardens.”
- “Two hearts, one love. Please celebrate with us as we tie the knot.”
- “Grab your dancing shoes — we’re getting hitched!”
- “After years of adventures together, we’ve decided to make it official. We’d love for you to be there.”
- “Eat, drink and be married. Join Olivia & Wilson for a celebration of love.”
Save the date wording
- “Save the date for the wedding of Emma & James · 09.18.2027 · Napa, California · Formal invitation to follow.”
- “We’re getting married! Mark your calendar for June 12, 2027.”
- “Hold the date — Olivia & Wilson are tying the knot.”
Timing tip: send save the dates 6–8 months before the wedding (8–12 months for a destination wedding) and invitations 6–8 weeks before.
Details card wording
A details card keeps your invitation clean while giving guests everything they need:
Ceremony — 4:00 PM · The Garden Lawn
Reception — 6:00 PM · The Barn
Dress code — Cocktail attire
Accommodation — Rooms held at Napa Valley Lodge until August 1
Website — www.emmaandjames.com
RSVP card wording
- “Kindly reply by May 1, 2027 · Name(s) ______ · Joyfully accepts / Regretfully declines · Number of guests ___”
- “The favour of a reply is requested by August 15.”
- Fun extras: “I promise to dance if you play ______” or “Meal preference: Beef · Fish · Vegetarian”.
Wedding thank you card wording
- “Thank you for celebrating our special day with us. With love, Olivia & Wilson.”
- “Your presence made our wedding unforgettable. Thank you for the beautiful gift and for being part of our story.”
- “From the bottom of our hearts — thank you! Love, Emma & James.”
Common wording mistakes to avoid
- Writing “RSVP” and “please” together (“RSVP” already means “please reply”).
- Putting registry information on the invitation itself — share it on your website instead.
- Forgetting the year or the city.
- Mixing formal and casual tones on different cards of the same suite.
